Express Entry is an online system that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) uses to
manage applications for permanent residence from skilled workers. It is not an immigration program.
PROCESS
Step 1: Find out if you’re eligible
Express Entry system manages applications for three economic immigration programs:
Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) Program
Federal Skilled Trades (FST) Program
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
Each of these three programs has different eligibility requirements.
Provinces and territories can also recruit candidates from the Express Entry pool through the Provincial
Nominee Program (PNP) to meet local labour market needs.
Step 2: Get your documents ready
You need documents, such as language test results (IELTS, et cetera) and educational credential
assessment (ECA), to show that you’re eligible for Express Entry. Some documents take a long time to
get, so you should plan ahead and get the documents you need.
Step 3: Submit your profile
Your Express Entry profile is where you give IRCC information about yourself. If you’re eligible, IRCC will accept you into their pool of candidates. You’ll be ranked in the Express Entry pool using a points-based system called Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Your CRS score is based on the information in your profile. You can check your score on IRCC website before submitting your profile in Express Entry System.
Step 4: Receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence of Canada
Being in the pool of candidates does not guarantee an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for PR of Canada. IRCC sends ITAs to the candidates with the highest scores in the pool.
Step 5: Apply for permanent residence of Canada
If IRCC invites you to apply, you’ll have 60 days to submit your application for PR. IRCC will process most complete applications that have all the supporting documents in 6 months or less.
